Philippe Kirsch Earned LL.M. in 1972. Earlier postings in the Foreign service include Peru and twice at the UN, New York. He has been closely involved in the development of international humanitarian law. While Legal Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, he acted as Chair of the Committee of the Whole for the 1998 Rome Conference that established an International Criminal Court (ICC). Mr Kirsch is now Chairman of the ICC Preparatory Commission. Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations, New York (1988–1992). Assistant Deputy Minister for Legal and Consular Affairs (1994–1996). Legal Adviser, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (1994–1999). Ambassador to Sweden (1999 -2003) Philippe Kirsch, has been President of the International Criminal Court and a judge in its Appeals Division since March 2003. >> Back to top |
