Youk Chhang's mother, Keo Nan, 82 years old, meeting for the first
time villagers of Trapeang Veng village in Banteay Mean Chey
province, where she used to live under the Khmer Rouge regime. Some
of the villagers there were responsible for her and her children's
pain and suffering, while others there actually helped her and her
family to survive under the regime. Keo Nan lost all of her three
brothers, one sister, one daughter, and many grandchildren under the
Khmer Rouge regime. In total, nearly 60 of her relatives are still
missing after the fall of the regime. Remarkably for her,
"forgiveness" is still possible.
