On January 14, 2014, DC-Cam's Witnessing Justice Project held a Public Village Forum in Kampong Sralao I commune, Chhep district, Preah Vihear province. Approximately 80 villagers, students and local leaders of Kampong Sralao I Secondary School gathered together inside Chhep district's Office. The community shares a common border with Laos. It's separated by the Mekong river. During the KR regime (1975-1979), some people managed to cross the river to escape the atrocities. When the KR was overthrown in January 1979, many decided to flee to Laos and return in early 1980s.
