Twenty villagers from Kampot, Prey Veng, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Kampong Thom and Mondulkiri arrived in Phnom Penh today on the invitation of the Documentation Center of Cambodia. During their three-day stay in Phnom Penh, they will receive briefing about case 002 proceedings, attend hearings at the Khmer Rouge tribunal and visit Khmer Rouge's prison of S-21. On Wednesday December 14, 2011, they will go sightseeing in Phnom Penh in order to refresh the feelings before returning to their home villages the next day. The twenty villagers, who are civil parties, former Khmer Rouge cadres, former Khmer Rouge prisoners, complainants to the Khmer Rouge tribunal, are selected to attend this study tour. Some of them were petitioners who filed complaints to the Vietnamese-backed Cambodian government to bring Khmer Rouge leaders to justice in the early 1980s. One of the participants is former Khmer Rouge district chief of Chhouk District of Kampot Province, known as Region 35, during Democratic Kampuchea regime.
