The Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam)'s Genocide Education Project conducted a public education forum in Chong Kal village, Chong Kal Commune, Chong Kal District, Uddor Meanchey Province. The forum was conducted at a compound of Chey Oudom Chong Kal pagoda. The participants attending the forum are approximately 250. Among these numbers, there are villagers, students and teachers.

Uddor Meanchey is a province in the north part of Cambodia located along the border with Thailand. The capital is Samraong town. Uddor Meanchey has five districts (Samrong, Chong Kal, Banteay Ampil, Trapeang Prasat and Anlong Veng) along the Dangrek Mountains. The mountainous and forested area of Uddor Meanchey was used as a base by the Khmer Rouge when they fought against the Khmer Republic led by General Lon Nol (1970-1975). The Khmer Rouge rebuilt their former bases in the Dangrek mountain range area, along the border with Thailand and made Anlong Veng their main "capital" from 1989 till 1997. Uddor Meanchey is one of the most landmine-ridden areas in Cambodia.

The public education forum discussed the experiences of the people's lives under the Khmer Rouge and encouraged the younger and the older generations to discuss the importance of genocide education and survivors to share their life experiences under the Khmer Rouge. The project's team members distributed copies of the textbook "A History of Democratic Kampuchea (1975-1979)" and discussed one chapter from it. Other materials for distribution include the magazine Searching for the Truth and booklets on Khmer Rouge tribunal Cases 001 and 002. During the forum, Ser Sayana taught a chapter from Democratic Kampuchea history book.

The forum is being held in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and funded by The Asia Foundation (TAF), Phnom Penh, Cambodia with the core supports from the Swedish International Agency for Development (Sida) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
