On April 2-7, 2011, the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) and the Ministry of Education conducted a quality control evaluation in Koh Kong province, one of the remote Cambodian provinces near Thai border. During the Khmer Rouge (KR) period, Koh Kong was under the administrative control of the Southwest zone with Nhim Ros as the zone secretary. Nhim Ros was arrested and executed at S-21 accused of being CIA. Cadres in the zone were more severely purged following his arrest. Koh Kong was liberated on January 17, ten days after the liberation of Phnom Penh. In the present day, Koh Kong is one of the natural tourist sites with its great forestry scenery and the beautiful complex of lakes. Situated along the ranges of Cardamom Mountain, the road leading to the provincial town makes up one of the beautiful scene and characterizes it as the touristic province. The education system in the province has improved from time to time. However, a number of challenges still persist, and these have formed significant obstacles for the quality of education in the province.
