On March 6, 2011, the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam)'s Genocide Education Project conducts a public education forum in Dambe
Commune, Dambe District, Kampong Cham Province. The forum is conducted at a compound of Pun Leak pagoda. The participants attending
the forum are approximately 95. Among these numbers, there are 65 students, 25 villagers, 3 teachers, and 2 monks.
KAMPONG CHAM -- DAMBE is one of 16 districts of Kampong Cham province. The district town is Dambe. The location of Dambe town is
located on the National Road Number 73 about 11 kilometers from National Highway 7. Dambe is about 45 kilometers west of the provincial
capital of Kampong Cham and 47 kilometers south of Kratie. In Dambe, there are resort and waterfall. Dambe shares border with Preak Prasab
district of Kratie province to the north, with Memot district to the east, with Ponhea Krek district to the south and with Tbaung Khmum
district to the west. Dambe district is subdivided into 7 communes - Neang Teut, Tik Chrov, Trapeang Pring, Seda, Dambe, Kok Srok, and
Chong Cheach. According to the 1998 census, the population was 51,650 persons and 9,738 households. Most of people are farmers and rubber
plantation workers. During Khmer Rouge regime, there were many DK prisons and killing sites in Dambe such as Khnol Chas regional security
office in Neang Teut, Prey Bos Kraol district's security office in Seda, Choam Trakuon killing site in Tik Chrov, Trapeang Thmat security office
and Bos Bangky killing site in Chong Cheach, Prey Munty Komar killing site in Dambe, and Wat Thmey security office in Kok Khmum commune.
Khmer Rouge still took control this district until 1980s. In 1985, Khmer Rouge burned down the district office of Dambe.
The public education forum discusses the experiences of the people's lives under the KR and also encourages the younger and the older generations
to discuss the importance of genocide education and survivors to share their real life experiences under the KR. The project's team members distribute
copies of the textbook "A History of Democratic Kampuchea (1975-1979)" and discuss one chapter from it. Other materials for distribution include the
magazine Searching for the Truth and booklets on Khmer Rouge tribunal Cases 001 and 002. During the forum, one of the team members taught a
chapter, chapter 9 from DK history book. The chapter titled “Office S-21 (Tuol Sleng Prison).
