A woman from Takaev assigned to Po-1 Hospital in mid-1977 recalled that Ieng Thirith convened frequent meetings -- perhaps fortnightly -- of staff at which she urged them all to take good care of the patients. The staff in her building were all unmarried women.  There were no men to talk to except the patients, whom they were forbidden to fall in love with, on pain of removal.  She saw this happen once, and the women was removed, although she did not know what happened  after that.  However, the watchword at the hospital was that anyone who opposed the Organization was dead meat – this was what everyone in her building said -- so she lived in constant fear.  There was a case of one woman – Tauch --  who had tried to flee, but was known to have been caught and killed.  She was one of the ones who had said anyone who opposed would die.  On the other hand, this interviewee was never herself subjected to any threats, and she never witnessed any torture or other severe ill-treatment of staff who made mistakes.  She citied the example of one woman, Di, who had failed to come to the aid of patients who were screaming in pain at night.  Di was "refashioned" for this negligence – told she wasn't performing her medical duties properly -- by the building chairman, but returned to work.  Other than Tauch, she was unaware of anyone being taken away from the hospital and killed.[1]
